Steam Dimsum / Steamed Vegetable Dumpling and Pies


2 small cups flour 

1 tsp salt 


1/2 small cabbage (shredded) 

1 small cup raw tofu (mashed)

1 onion (chopped)

1 bouillon cube

Salt to taste

2 tsp olive oil


Pour the flour in a mixing bowl, add salt and mix well. Add some water and knead to form a soft dough. Rub little oil in the hands and knead again. Cover and allow to rest.

   Heat the oil in a pan, add ginger and garlic paste. Stir fry for few minutes. Add the onions and fry till translucent. Then add the remaining ingredients (tofu and shredded cabbage, seasonings). Fry for 5 minutes. Remove from the fire and set aside.

    Cut the dough into small pieces, flatten with the hands and coat in flour. Mould into balls and roll flat. It should be thin. Add a spoonful of the filling. Fold and pinch, twist the end a little. For the pies, add spoonful of the filling and fold like meat pie, but rub some water at the edges before sealing it. Steam for 25-30 minutes.

   Serve with tomato chutney.
