Bagel (Bread)

Bagel is a bread product of Poland. It is delicious. It is prepared with few ingredients ie flour, yeast, salt and a little bit of sugar or honey. And can be served with tea. Best for breakfast. 


3 small cups of flour 

Another flour (1 cup) 

1 tbsp yeast 

1 tsp salt 

2 tbsp granulated sugar / honey 

Strawberry jam for serving (optional) 


Seive the flour in a mixing bowl, add salt and yeast with a cup of water. The thickness should be that of bread. Stir well with a wooden stick. Cover and allow to rise for at least an hour. Keep in a warm place. 

  Bring out the mixture, it will double in size or volume. Add the sugar or honey with the remaining one cup of flour. Stir well. Sprinkle some flour on a board and drop the mixture onto it. Knead for some minutes. Cover and allow to rise for another one hour. Sprinkle some flour on a board and drop the mixture onto it. Cut into medium size and mould into balls. Sprinkle some flour on the balls and cover to rise for at least 20-30 minutes. The balls will puff up. Make some holes in the middle like doughnuts. Put the balls in a boiling water which is on the fire and boil for 1 minute, flip over and boil the other side for 1 minute. Remove from the pot and strain on a wire rack. 

  Then brush the top of the bread with egg wash and bake in moderately hot oven for 30-35 minutes.

  Serve warm and enjoy!
