Baguettes (French Bread)

 Baguette is a French bread. Delicious and soft. It's long and prepared with flour, salt, yeast and baked. 


4 small cups flour 

1 tbsp yeast 

1 tsp salt 

3 tbsp sugar (optional) 

1 medium cup warm water (not full;half of the cup) 


Soak yeast in warm water and allow to rise for at least 5 minutes. If the yeast is good, it will rise. Pour the flour in a mixing bowl, add salt and mix. Make a hole in the middle and add half of the soaked yeast. Mix and add the remaining soaked yeast. Mix and knead till the dough is soft. Rub some oil in a bowl, place the dough into the bowl and cover with a kitchen cloth. Keep it in a warm place to rise for at least an hour. 

  Sprinkle some flour on a board, put the dough on top of it. Cut into medium size 5 or 6 pieces. Roll flat one at a time with a rolling pin and roll it like a mat. Sprinkle some flour on a large tray and arrange the bread sticks. Cover with a kitchen cloth and allow to rise for at least 30 minutes. It will double in size. Use a sharp knife and slit the bread sticks diagonally. Arrange on a greased baking tray and bake in preheated oven for about 30 minutes in a moderate heat till golden brown.
